The movement is gaining momentum. The Voice of the North stops its publications on X as of Friday January 17, citing the “drifts” of Elon Musk, the owner of this social network which, according to the regional daily, now promotes “online hatred at the expense of moderation”. The newspaper thus joins a host of other media, French (West , South WestMediapart…) as foreigners (The Guardian), who have already left ship X in recent months.

Anxious to be present on all social networks in order to bring reliable information and words to as many people as possible, La Voix du Nord remains active on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube and Bluesky.

The northern daily took the time to weigh the pros and cons of this decision, because it was counting on “a community of more than 400,000 subscribers” that he didn't want “not leave aside”explains its editor-in-chief Stéphanie Zorn on the newspaper's website. But “Elon Musk's new positions, his interference in European politics and in favor of the extremes have finally convinced us”.

Since the takeover in 2022 of Twitter by billionaire Elon Musk, who then renamed it X, The Voice of the North had already gradually reduced its presence on this social network. The newspaper remains present on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube and Bluesky, which uses the codes of “with moderation and a more serious algorithm”he judges.
