The Friends of Saint-Saturnin association brought together donors and volunteers last Sunday to celebrate the restoration of an exceptional work, thanks to a show of solidarity.
Sunday, a special moment was organized by the association Les Amis de Saint-Saturnin, chaired by Laurent de Beaumont, after the Sunday mass celebrated by Father Emmanuel Julienne. This event aimed to thank the donors and all the people who contributed, in one way or another, to the restoration of the monumental painting “Descent from the Cross”, which found its place in the choir of the church.
After the celebration, a tour of the church was orchestrated by parish leaders, with a stop in front of the large painting located behind the altar. The restorers, Françoise Vorms and her son Nicolas for the wooden frame, Eugénie Galéraud for the painting and covering, as well as Mirko, cabinetmaker, who consolidated the frame which had become fragile over time, were present to share their expertise.
President Laurent de Beaumont was keen to underline the major support of the municipality, represented by Chantal Aygat, mayor of Merville, and Merville associations, several of which are among the patrons. “Eight Merville associations, nearly 100 families or individuals, five companies, and more than 29 donations received on the Credofunding platform made it possible to raise nearly €20,000 in less than two years to restore this painting,” a- he summarized.
Around twenty volunteers, including municipal employees, participated in taking down and reinstalling the monumental work measuring 4.60 meters in height and 3.50 meters in width.
The morning concluded with a lunch buffet.
