On the Other Side of the Waves features three Africans who give us their divergent vision of Africa in its relationship with the rest of the world. Katio, his companion Kouamé and his little sister Akouba, have come every morning since their childhood to collect objects washed up by the waves on the beach. They clean them, to resell them.
Katio, consumed by resentment, considers those on the other side of the waves responsible for her misfortune. For Kouamé the problem comes from his corrupt peers. He expects nothing from his country and dreams of crossing the waves to join these
Others he admires. Akouba, on the other hand, believes in a better future for his Africa. She imagines her proud of her identity, free from idolatry or hatred.
The vitality and solar energy of the actors offer a lesson in hope and optimism. Despite the precariousness, the strength to live lights up the scene. The omnipresent music brings a deep emotional dimension to the story, reinforcing each key moment and intensifying the emotions of the actors.
