“It’s dark and grating humor”: the show “Jeanne and Gabrielle rest in plague” Friday at La Sirène

On Friday, you should not miss the show “Jeanne and Gabrielle rest in plague” at La Sirène for three reasons. The first is that Caroline Dubois, actress, is going to perform her show at home, for the first time. His face may not be unfamiliar to you. The one who often walks with her dog near Kerdreiz is one of the pillars of the Paimpol Comedy club. She also hosted the stage at Paimpol in rock last summer.

“It’s nice. I will be able to show people around me what I do. For me, it anchors me a little more in this place,” says the woman who has lived in Paimpol for two years. Caroline Dubois is the Paimpolais and laughing half of the duo “Jeanne et Gabrielle”, and of the Compagnie Chon, which she forms with her friend Claire Bidet. The second reason to take your place on Friday at La Sirène is that this session will be special. Claire Bidet is going to take a break because she is going to be a mother. Friday evening will be their last performance. “There’s going to be a bit of a moving side. Historically, the Chon Company is the two of us. It’s really a story of friendship,” confides Caroline. Claire will be replaced by Juliette Nuss, whom Caroline and Claire met at the festival last year.

Endearing but completely unsuitable

Juliette and Claire look alike. “I felt like I was cross-eyed when I saw them. It’s quite strange. They have the same voice, the same banter… They have a lot in common. It’s stunning. When we knew we had to find a replacement for Claire, we only thought of her.” Sunday, in Miniac-Morvan, Juliette will slip into Gabrielle’s shoes. “She’s going to do all of Claire’s interim work. Afterwards, depending on Claire’s choice to come back or not, we will continue or not. We don’t know,” says Caroline. The third reason is that “Jeanne and Gabrielle rest in plague” is a very funny black humor show. “They are two endearing characters but completely unsuited to the world. They try to do the best they can, within the rules of the art, but it never works.”

Hijack the funeral

Jeanne and Gabrielle have created a company specializing in funerals of all types: hen parties, stag parties, and just burials. A calendar error will create the unexpected. One thinks she’s at a bachelor party. The other knows that it’s just a funeral. “It’s dark and grating humor. We simply deal with death,” says Caroline, who does not recommend this show for children under 10 years old.

“We went to see five or six funerals of people we didn’t know, to take notes on the postures of the ceremonial officiants. To divert the funeral, we had to write a real one,” concludes Caroline.
