2025 promises to be a pivotal year for mega Hollywood productions, when several blockbusters will have everything to gain, but also everything to lose.

And this is particularly true for superhero films, which have been losing momentum for several years now. After a quieter year, Marvel Studios will try to stay in the upper echelons of the box office with the release of three particularly anticipated productions: Captain America: Brave New World (February 14), Thunderbolts* (May 2) and The Fantastic Four (July 25).

On the DC side, the Superman by James Gunn will take flight on July 11, and it is undoubtedly the most anticipated – and feared – film of the year. This is THE film on which the DCU must succeed in building its new foundations. It’s either make or break.

The sports drama F1 with Brad Pitt is perhaps the film that could cause the most surprise this year. With Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) at the helm, filming having taken place during real Grand Prix, and the immense popularity of motorsport around the world, let’s say that the stars are well aligned…

In 2022, Jurassic World Dominion had managed to gross over a billion dollars, and the film was mediocre. With David Koepp (Jurassic Park) and Gareth Edwards (The Creator) to the screenplay and direction, respectively, and a distribution notably counting on the talents of Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali, the dinosaurs of Jurassic World Rebirth (July 2) should have the wind in their sails again this summer – and this umpteenth chapter should be good, too!

The musical Wicked: For Good (November 21) should also be very successful, as the first episode, released last November, is currently approaching the $700 million mark at the worldwide box office.

Two big guns from Disney should also reap the expected rewards this year, namely the live action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch (May 23) and the animated film Zootopia 2 (November 26).

Ultimately, it’s impossible to missAvatar: Fire and Ash (December 19). After all, the first two installments of James Cameron’s eco-anxious saga have already grossed a whopping $5.2 billion worldwide. Will this third opus be able to live up to the success of its predecessors? Probably not. But it should have no trouble crossing the billion-dollar mark, and even ending its run in theaters somewhere in the Top 10 highest-grossing films of all time.
