Japan issued a tsunami warning Monday evening after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in the southwest of the archipelago, according to the American Institute of Geophysics (USGS).

Waves of one meter were feared after this earthquake off the coast of Miyazaki prefecture, in the Kyushu region, which occurred around 9:19 p.m. (12:19 p.m. GMT), according to the USGS.

The USGS revised its initial magnitude estimate downward from 6.9 to 6.8, adding that “there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.”
