Artist sculptor and painter since the age of 50, Étienne Chambrelannow aged 72, lived in Pont-Audemer (Eure), “the Venice of ” until he was 20, his brothers and sisters still residing in our region. Coming from a working family – his father was a mason – the young man then traveled from Polynesia au Moroccopracticing the profession of social worker, a busy time with the court of Papeete of juvenile delinquency, then worked in humanitarian work until, after half a century, he began an artistic approach.

From school dunce to author

“My life in Pont-Audemer had nothing very interesting, except a small aura in the small world of petanque a you football. This undoubtedly predisposed me to a great career as an intellectual,” says the man who, around twenty years ago, had already published a small book entitled From Desiring to Write to Desired Writing.

What pushed me to write was a poorly experienced academic indifference and cultural shame. Creation and humor have been for me both a refuge and a means of recognition.

Étienne Chambrelan, writer

And there is humor in this dreamer, passionate about literature, who before taking up his pen “inspires and Shakespeare thoroughly”! Inspired by the wonders and absurdities of our society, this father of five “all in good shape” children, residing in Castelnau-de-Guers (Hérault), decided to write We are all Smic’ to share a literary adventure full of humor and reflection.

A crazy interference in the world of Art

“Here cultural shame is ridiculed excessively in order to finally accept it and accept what is other. » A bold piece of writing, both in substance and form, for someone who, equipped with a clamp, can make the world oval!

Actors in this somewhat “crazy” book, Edmonde and Jean are two poor, unknown artists. Their representation of art is limited to the Post Office and Firefighter calendars, or even the lids of Christmas chocolate boxes, framed and displayed on the buffet. For them who understand nothing about contemporary art, chance dictates that they win an eight-day trip to visit theInternational exhibition of contemporary artprecisely, from Shanghai. They are then dazed, stunned by what they see, works that seem delirious and incomprehensible to them…

A surprising, hilarious and profound story

During this trip, a diplomatic incident propelled them into the media field and, on their return home, moved by this fame, they allowed themselves to organize an identical exhibition in their village, which then became the center of the world. Hence the influx of incredible subsidies, the propulsion to the rank of world stars which makes them converse with the Pope, Barack Obama, Vladimir Poutine

An interference in the world of Art with its misunderstandings and its various representations in this writing which can sometimes disconcert and which plunges the reader into a “vapoury artistic verbiage” deliberately exaggerated and hilarious, but close, however, to a certain reality . “You have to be lenient with stupidity, it’s sometimes genetic”! A story as surprising as it is profound dedicated to his mason dad who died at the respectable age of 93.
