Princess Leonor, who is embarking on a trip to the high seas as part of her training at the Naval School, said goodbye to her parents this Saturday at the port of Cádiz, in Andalusia.

Leonor took off. Under the emotional gaze of her parents, the 19-year-old princess left for six months across the ocean, as part of her military training, aboard the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano. Queen Letizia of Spain, usually so controlled, had difficulty containing her emotion this Saturday, her hand raised to say goodbye to her eldest daughter from the bridge in Cadiz, in Andalusia. Pressed against her husband, King Felipe VI, the sovereign wiped away a tear. In front of her, her daughter, in an officer’s uniform, boarded alongside her colleagues. At the dock, a crowd also came to greet the young woman.

Princess Leonor’s trip is part of her military training, in the same way that her father did it at the age of 17. She will have to put into practice the lessons learned at the Naval Academy, in particular to carry out certain maneuvers and ensure night shifts. The day before her departure, she had spent the night with her parents at the Parador hotel, finding comfort and strength before her big leap.
