“From Baywatch to Chicago”…

It was Gia Coppola, whom Jamie Lee Curtis has known since she was a child, who insisted that Pamela Anderson play Shelly. “The script was first sent to my old agent, who turned it down within five minutes. I was at home, making jam, and I told myself that I would never find a role of this caliber again. Then Gia got in touch with my son and sent him the script. I could hear Shelley’s voice!”

Pamela Anderson immediately got to work, “spending time with dancers from the show Jubilee.” She discovered a little-known world, made up of “many rules to keep them safe. They are also very proud of their profession, which is a form of art.”

The film’s costumes caught his attention. “These are museum pieces that have not left the dressing rooms for 30 years. Putting them on was like wearing pieces of magic. Some costumes still bore the names of the dancers, so I felt the spirit of the women who had worn them before me,” she explains.

Filmed in 18 days, The last cabaret dancer was also an opportunity for Pamela Anderson to take stock of her career and her public life. “I played on Broadway [en 2022 dans Chicago] and I loved the experience. Of Baywatch has Broadwayit sounds good. But I wanted more and that’s what I discovered while making this film.”

An underrated actress, reduced to roles where only her plasticity was highlighted, the actress has today decided to no longer pretend. “I want to play characters and be myself in life. I think people can relate to me when I take off my makeup. I also wanted to play Shelly without makeup and only wear it when she is on stage.
