Hobbies. Our selection of outings this weekend in Center-Alsace

▶ Sélestat | La Périchole en technicolor aux dance mats

Sunday January 12. The regional opera ensemble Opéra Piano will be back this Sunday, January 12 at 5 p.m., at the Tanzmatten in Sélestat, with the opera buffa in three acts La Périchole by Jacques Offenbach.

When the company travels to Tanzmatten, it is seen, it is experienced. With La Périchole, a version for 15 solo singers, 12 musicians, 24 choristers and 8 dancers, under the musical direction and orchestration of Etienne Ferrer and directed by Marguerite Woerlé, once again the spectators are called to immerse yourself in the history and world of opera buffa.

A social and feminist drama

La Périchole was created in 1868. Jacques Offenbach, then at the height of his glory, composed this work with the librettists Ludovic Halévy and Henri Meilhac. The original story takes place in Lima, Peru. A street singer, La Périchole, and her lover Piquillo lead a miserable existence. The Viceroy, who is participating incognito in a popular festival, notices the young woman exhausted by hunger and offers to take her to court. La Périchole, overwhelmed by poverty, ends up accepting and leaves a touching farewell letter to her lover.

In her creation for the Opéra Piano company, Marguerite Woerlé transposes in the 1950s La Périchole in the south of , in the world of technicolor cinema.

After the triumph last November at the Cité de la musique et de la danse in Strasbourg, the ensemble will set the Tanzmatten ablaze with a 2.5 hour show (with intermission).
