Meghan Markle mourns the death of her most faithful friend, Guy, the dog who shared her life for ten years. The Duchess of Sussex posted a heartbreaking message on Instagram to announce his passing to those who will watch her new culinary series, released on January 15 on Netflix, in which the late dog appears numerous times. “In memory of Guy. In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog shelter in Canada. He was in an animal shelter in Kentucky and had only a few days to live. I collected it… and I fell in love. They called him “the little guy” because he was so small and fragile, so I called him “Guy”. And he was the best boy a girl could have asked for. If you followed me on Instagram back then, you must have seen it a lot already – and on The Tig too [ancien blog lifestyle de Meghan Markle, ndlr]. He was with me during Suitswhen I got engaged (then married), when I became a mother… He was with me for everything: the calm, the chaos, the tranquility, the comfort. »

Her grieving declaration of love is accompanied by a montage of very personal photos and videos, which show to what extent the dog was part of her daily life, a member of her family in the same way as her husband, Prince Harry and their two children, Archie and Lilibet. We see Harry running with Guy on the beach, cuddling him on the sofa or walking with his son, going to see donkeys and horses. The Duchess also shows a sequence filmed in the car, photos of her pregnancy and an adorable photo of a picnic with her daughter, surrounded by their four-legged companions. At the end of the montage, we hear Meghan’s voice mixed with that of one of her children, humming a song “We love you Guy, oh yes we do / We love you Guy and we’ll be true / When you’re not near us, we’re blue” (“We love you Guy, oh yes we love you / We love you Guy and we will be faithful / When you’re not near us, we we are sad).
“I have cried too many tears to count”
In several photos, the beagle appears diminished, its legs in a bandage or its gait swaying. Meghan Markle looks back on this difficult moment in her turbulent life: “Shortly before my move to the United Kingdom, he experienced a terrible accident which forced him to undergo surgical interventions for several months and to no longer be able to leave the clinic. Doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick said he could. H and I would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy while he was convalescing in Surrey for months. I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in Toronto, our current veterinarians, and my friends and community: Thank you for loving him so much. »
