The market share of French films reaches 44.4%the highest level recorded since 2008 (year of release of Welcome to the Ch’tis et Asterix at the Olympic Games). American films come in second place, with an estimated share of 36.7%. In 2023, they constituted the largest market share (41.2%), narrowly surpassing French productions (40.1%).
Three French productions appear in the top 5 films recording the greatest number of entries. They alone achieve a total of over 25 million entrieswhich has not happened since 2011 (release year ofUntouchables and Nothing to declare). All French films released in 2024 will have more than 80 million admissions. The interim President of the CNC, Olivier Henrard, attributes the remarkable success of French films to their “diversity” and to their “singularity”. Among them we find comedies, dramas, adventure films, musicals… as well as several first films by young filmmakers.
According to the press release of December 31, 2024 from the National Federation of French Cinemas (FNCF), “2025 should be an even more favorable year” with “a denser range of films”.
