An essential figure on the French scene, Gad Elmaleh has been one of the French’s favorite comedians for many years.. With films with cult sequences and sketches that marked an entire generation, the comedian is one of these notable personalities. Invited this January 5, 2025 on the set at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, for the promotion of his new show, Gad Elmaleh returned to a rather astonishing fact. Although he has lived in France for a long time, he still does not have French nationality. Born in Morocco, he obtained Canadian citizenship when he went to study in Montreal.

But why does Gad Elmaleh still not have his French papers? : “I don’t have a French passport, I don’t have French citizenship. It’s not a conviction. To be very honest, I started the process a long time ago, and it was such a job that I gave up“, he indicated, wearily. Then, there is indeed a more personal reason for this state: “I liked the idea of being an immigrant in France for whom things are going very well and who lives the life of the French, who does not need to become French to be loved, appreciated, helped initially by the French”. So, it seems that Gad Elmaleh agreed to live like that.
