This Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 9:10 p.m., France 2 broadcasts Colors of fire by Clovis Cornillac. Did the writer Pierre Lemaître, whose book is adapted here, approve of the film?

In 2022, Clovis Cornillac brings to the screen Colors of fire, novel by Pierre Lemaitre and sequel toSee you up therealso adapted by Albert Dupontel in 2017. Widely applauded upon its release, this excellent vintage of French cinema which brings together – among others – Benoît Poelvoorde, Léa Drucker, Alice Isaaz and Fanny Ardant, is broadcast this Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 9:10 p.m. on France 2. The pitch? In Paris, in 1929, Madeleine Péricourt buries her father, Marcel, a businessman who has made a fortune. During the ceremony, Madeleine worries about the absence of her son Paul, and asks André Delcourt, the boy’s tutor, to find him. It is then that everyone sees Paul, who throws himself from the first floor onto his grandfather’s coffin…

Pierre Lemaitre involved in his film adaptations

Just like Albert Dupontel’s adaptation of his novel See you up therethe writer Pierre Lemaitre also wrote the screenplay for Colors of fire. For the press kitdirector Clovis Cornillac remembers his collaboration with the author: “He was always open to my ideas and suggestions for changes. Better still, when I wanted to change the narrative, I had in front of me an incredibly available, generous partner, who always told me ‘This is your film’ and who sent me back the corrections that I proposed. He never opposed my choices or interfered in the staging. Being an artist himself, he did not consider me as a servile maker. This is how I work, otherwise I would not have been able to make the film. But this attitude on the part of an author is very elegant“.

Clovis Cornillac, expert on Pierre Lemaitre

In this same interview, Clovis Cornillac did not hide his admiration for the world of the 73-year-old French novelist, of whom he is a true fan!: “Pierre Lemaitre is an author I have been following since his first thrillers. I like what he writes because his books are part of a literature that relates to everything I like about cinema: the romantic which, just like great cinema, combines an elegance of writing and an intelligence that make entertainment appeal to the mind of the spectator. It’s like Dumas and Hugo: it’s a human adventure with something beyond us and the trajectory of the characters is so extraordinary that anything can happen to them. You can meet Hitler, you can play your life, you can accomplish enormous things..”
