Jeff Baena, screenwriter and director, also known for his marriage to Aubrey Plaza, has died at the age of 47.
According to TMZ, an aide discovered her body at a residence in the Los Angeles area around 10:30 a.m. local time on Friday, January 3.
Death was officially pronounced at the scene. The authorities, cited by the media, declared that it was a suicide.
Representatives for Jeff Baena have not yet offered comment.
Baena began her relationship with Aubrey Plaza, known for her roles in Parks and Recreation et White Lotusin 2011. The couple married a decade later.
The works of this writer, director and actor have quickly become classics of independent cinema, regularly winning awards at the Sundance Film Festival.
His film Life After Betha horror comedy in which he co-starred with Aubrey Plaza, was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance in 2014. Two years later, his next film, Joshystarring Thomas Middleditch, was also shortlisted for the same distinction.
About his collaboration with Plaza, Baena said in 2022:
”I would work with her if she wasn’t my wife, but luckily she is. There are a handful of directors who are lucky enough to be with an incredibly talented actress.
The opportunities to create together and do something creative where we’re both happy, that’s really rare.”
Baena is originally from Miami, where he grew up, before continuing his studies in cinema at New York University. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles to begin his career in the entertainment industry.
During his career, Baena has signed more than a dozen film projects and directing projects.
