Willem Dafoe appreciates that “Nosferatu” does not rely too much on special effects.
The 69-year-old actor stars alongside Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Emma Corrin in the Robert Eggers-directed horror film, and he revealed he liked the approach filmmaker’s down-to-earth approach to this project.
Speaking to the BBC, he explained: “You have to gain the authority to pretend, and with technology that gets lost.”
The new gothic horror film is a remake of the 1922 silent film “Nosferatu,” based on the novel “Dracula” by Bram Stoker.
Willem has starred in a number of horror films during his career, and the actor acknowledges that his face has the “range” needed to transition from one genre to another.
He adds: “I never think about my face. If I think about it, it’s to tell him to calm down.”
Furthermore, Robert recently said that horror films deserve more respect than they receive.
The 41-year-old filmmaker believes fans and critics are too quick to dismiss horror films.
Robert, who previously directed “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse,” told SlashFilm.com: “I think because of the history of genre films, often originally relegated to B-movies , people have not yet realized their importance.”
