the essential
Self-taught painter, Appamean Maly Labroquere has had the honor for a month of seeing her paintings exhibited by the Art + association in Pamiers, at the Espace d’Art Contemporain des Carmes. Meeting with a rebel artist from Ariège Pop Art.
Passionate about art since childhood, Maly Labroquere is now fully blossoming in her passion. This mother of two little girls recently decided to take the plunge to share her world in an exhibition organized at the Espace d’Art Contemporain des Carmes, in Pamiers, in the company of many other artists.
For Maly, art, as a universal language, is fully manifested in the creations of those who, through their works, go beyond the constraints of time and space. “My works are rich in emotions and reflections, containing many subtle messages. They are aimed at all generations, all beliefs and all social backgrounds, drawing on a mixture of urban art, Pop Art and realistic painting.”
In a style that resembles her, Maly mixes styles and textures. Her works, often colorful, combine characters from pop culture, which she subverts with talent, even if it means incorporating elements specific to her person. They are there to provoke reactions, to arouse emotions. “My life, my struggles and my dreams are reflected in every brushstroke, every color applied to the canvas, embodying my emotions and revealing a part of my soul. This quote from Pablo Picasso perfectly illustrates my state of mind at the moment of create: “Art purifies our soul from the sad banalities of everyday life”.”
His daughters, invaluable support
A true self-taught artist, Maly has developed his art over the years, blossoming in each of his creations. After a first life in commerce, where his love of painting and his artistic fiber were never far away, Maly chose to settle in Nantes to refine his knowledge of trompe l’oeil. “There I discovered the application of gold leaf and various wall renovation processes, while deepening my mastery of oil painting thanks to the teaching of Michel Tardy. This mentor opened up to me the “I minded a new approach in trompe l’oeil painting, and for two years I explored a style that continues to influence my current creations.”
On his return to Ariège, Maly found another painter, Joss Tognetti. At his side, she discovered other techniques which greatly influence her work today. “These two encounters profoundly marked my artistic approach, enriching my style with their teachings and new influences. Each canvas that I paint reflects a fragment of my life, mixing dreams, hopes and multiple forms of love, while capturing a moment key and the state of mind that accompanies it.”
More accustomed to sharing her talent on her social networks, Maly now exhibits her works at the Espace d’Art Contemporain des Carmes, thanks to the support of her daughters, Heden and Hénola, and her friends. “They pushed me to accept the proposal from Julien, manager of Art +. For them, my paintings had to get out of the house, so that people could see them. I would like to thank them for their daily support. I would also like to express my gratitude to Julien for his support, as well as to the town hall of Pamiers, because without her, this exhibition would not be possible.”
Today, some of his works have already found buyers among enthusiasts in Ariège, Toulouse, Biarritz, Paris, but also in Switzerland.
“If I could make one wish for the year 2025, it would be to exhibit in galleries located in cities such as Mirepoix, Toulouse, Montpellier, Sète, and Biarritz. As the singer Grand Corps Malade expressed, “ I’m the one who’s going to paint my life, so I’m going to set it on fire by adding many colors.”
