Because there is more than Netflix in this world and other platforms see their catalog grow every day, every week and every month, we decided to take stock of the new releases planned for Amazon Prime Video. At the beginning of each month, Ecran Large will therefore review some of the new releases added by Amazon Prime Video to its catalog, including films and series, original or not, in a non-exhaustive list.

So, what are the movies and series not to be missed on the streaming platform in September?

New Franck Provost ad: Au Naturel

What is it about? 35,000 years ago, in the Stone Age, the Clean Hair tribe lived in peace with the Dirty Hair tribe. While the Clean Hair lived happily, the Dirty Hair lamented their poor hair condition. Until one day, the Dirty Hair decided to send a spy to steal the shampoo recipe that the Clean Hair kept secret.

Why should you watch it? Because it is directed and performed by Alain Chabat and he is accompanied by Jean-Paul Rouve, Marina Foïs, Gérard Depardieu, PEF and Jean Rochefort. The cult comedy is coming to Amazon and if you like wacky scenarios with typical humor The Dummiesthen this is for you. Not great cinema (as you might expect), but a film that can be watched with your brain completely disconnected.

The Lord of the Rings: The Trilogy

We are looking for a play on words with Jean-Jacques Anneau

What is it about? This question will not be answered.

Why should you watch it? Yes, everyone has seen and re-seen the trilogy of Lord of the Rings. Yes, the long versions are better. But it’s hard to resist the temptation to talk about them again given Peter Jackson’s amazing success and his entire team, who succeeded in the insane bet of adapting Tolkien. Especially since it was with the cinema versions that everyone fell in love with this world and these characters.

The Lord of the Ringsit’s years of development, almost 300 million production budgetover 400 days of filming spread between October 1999 and December 2000 (not counting additional days until 2003). It is three extraordinary filmscrowned by a phenomenal success at the box office (almost 3 billion), a shower of Oscars (17 in total, including 11 for The Return of the King). And it is an important page in the history of cinemawhich therefore deserves to be watched and rewatched over and over again.

Seven Sisters

S Club 7

What is it about? In a future where Earth is overpopulated, the government has implemented a one-child policy. A man has decided to keep the existence of his seven granddaughters a secret through a ploy: each one is named after a day of the week, and they take turns sharing an official identity outside of the world. But one day, one of them disappears…

Why should you watch it? Seven Sisters (What Happened to Monday in the original version) stands as a worthy heir toEquilibrium : a film that doesn’t invent anything but recycles a whole bunch of science fiction referencesto arrive at a modest and comfortable little show. Inspired in particular by Blade Runner et The Sons of Mandirector Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow, Hansel & Gretel : Wich Hunters) chose to change the main character to a woman, and thus work with Noomi Rapace.

And the actress is unsurprisingly one of the best assets of Seven Sisterswhere she plays seven characters. No need to expect nuances in this family portrait (the naive one, the misanthrope…), in this easy dystopia or in this plot full of twists and turns. The film is designed as a slightly silly and potentially amusing little sci-fi treatand it is strongly advised not to expect anything more.

Under the Sun – seasons 1 to 13

  • Sortie : 1996
  • Duration: 52 minutes

Under the sun of Saint-Tropez

What is it about? Under the Sun depicts the destinies of three young women, Laure (Bénédicte Delmas), Caroline (Adeline Blondieau) and Jessica (Tonya Kinzinger), who try to live their romantic and professional conquests as much as they can.

Why should you watch it? An American-style series with multiple twists and turns that takes you through the funny and romantic daily lives of three young women in Saint-Tropez. Broadcast in 178 countries, the series has had lasting success with nearly 8 years of broadcasting and was one of the most widely broadcast French programs in the world.

On the program: love, revenge, glory and jealousy with scenarios worthy of Mysteries of love. But, it is the clumsiness of the scenario that makes the series funny and at the same time makes the characters endearing. And then, with the end of the summer holidays, this series allows us to dream a little more.

Boy Kills World

  • Release: September 13
  • Duration: 2h04

“You seek violence, violence will find you”

What is it about? In a dystopian city, Boy’s (Bill Skarsgård) family has been murdered before his eyes by the tyrannical Hilda, the head of a family that runs the city. Left for dead after Hilda leaves him deaf and mute, Boy is rescued by a Shaman who heals him and trains him to plot his revenge.

Why should you watch it? The classic little revenge story that never gets old and which turns into a game of massacres. Hunger Games. A really crazy film, with an artistic direction that invests in motley costumes to better reveal the specificity of each character. (as well as a host of references to pop culture)

For example, Boy, played by Bill Skarsgård, wears Ken’s kimono in Street fighters and the training scenes may possibly be reminiscent of the movie Karate KidThe film is therefore a very rough pop cocktail which will satisfy regulars and addicts alike.

Miller’s Girl

Wednesday and Bilbo, the crossover the world has been waiting for

What is it about? A young writer embarks on a creative odyssey. Her teacher assigns her a project that draws them both into an increasingly complex tangle. They must then confront their dark sides.

Why should you watch it? If the pitch is already very intriguing, the casting completes the desire to see the project: Jenna Ortega, the new Hollywood superstar, and Martin Freeman, our favorite hobbit/Watson, with unparalleled British charm. The film will for sure be very hot (it is R Rated in the United States), and offers us a movie couple that promises to be explosive.

The plot of the film is reminiscent of In the Houseone of the best (and most perverse) films by François Ozon, or even the Lolita by Kubrick. The music seems particularly interesting, captivating, carried by a beautiful female voice and piano notes. The sets also seem lush and original. In short, we can’t wait to see the first film by the screenwriter of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the first “serious” film produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

They meet again after Snowden

What is it about? Private detective Nick Bali, an American expatriate in Greece, is hired to investigate the suspicious death of a young shipping tycoon, Leo Vardakis, in Crete.

Why should you watch it? Shailene Woodley in an investigative film after her impeccable performance in Misanthropeit can only make you want to. The actress is not at her first satire on the rich, after the enjoyable Dumb Money. And the return of Joseph Gordon-Levitt finally sold the project, the actor having, despite his talent, had no more interesting roles for almost a year. Snowden (in which he already rubbed shoulders with Woodley).

The music seems to go well with action scenes that promise to be very strong. We are obviously curious to see the first American production of director Philippe Lacôtebetter known for his production of documentaries on the wars of the African continent and for his author dramas also set in Ivory Coast, having made the rounds of festivals (Cannes, Venice, Toronto). The quality of the editing seems assured with Jay Cassidy at the helm, he who has worked brilliantly for David O. Russell, Sean Penn, Bradley Cooper and Roger Corman, among others.
