For the arrival of spring 2024 in Gujan-Mestras, in April, the first neighborhood center is inaugurated in Hume. It adjoins Clos Fleuri. It is the meeting place for the neighborhood council, but also a friendly place where members can receive Humois to discuss their problems but also organize moments of sharing.
In May, the smell of holidays, summer and leisure is already in the air. The City’s leisure zone, Gujan-Mestras Bassin des Loisirs, presents its new brand and its new visual at the Maison des associations. They are based around three themes which are “have fun”, “enjoy” and “dream”. The second commercial site in the Basin, after the Pilat dune, had to have its identity. He found it under the name Eratopia.
The rugby players’ nice move
Big end of the season for Gujan rugby in June. After coming down from Fédérale 1 last season, they offer themselves the return matches of 16e et 8e final at home. But before that, they won at Gennevilliers then at Tours to qualify for the quarter-finals and earn a return to Fédérale 1.
At the same time, the Miroir performance hall signed a partnership agreement with the Olympia d’Arcachon. It allows the City of Arcachon to decentralize some of its shows at Le Miroir as part of the Cadences dance festival, the choreographic course or even the chamber music festival.
A festive summer
July brings its share of festive events, between Monday Impromptus aperitif-concerts, and Jeudis de Larros which find the Place du Pointon on the port. Free concerts and shows attract locals and vacationers in a beautiful atmosphere.
On July 20, the casino offers an open-air opera, “Madame Butterfly”, in the natural area of Lake Magdeleine. The event, full of promise, brought together 4,000 spectators, but the weather took its toll. After just half an hour of performance, the rain came to write another ending to Puccini’s opera, much to the regret of the spectators, singers, choirs and musicians.
In August, Gujan-Mestras celebrated, whose success could not be denied, was postponed by a week because of the Olympic Games, but was not going to suffer from this setback. The big local festival breaks new records with 90,000 people over four evenings, coming to enjoy the great free shows.
As always, September is the month of back to school for children and the associative world in the village of associations.
But for a weekend, the port of Larros still hosts, on the Place du Pointon, the Gujan Thrillers festival, which highlights thrillers and other dark works. Many authors come to meet a public that is always large and fond of this type of reading.
