Usually sold at a price of 9.99 euros per month (or integrated into Canal+ offers), the Apple TV+ streaming service will be exceptionally free for everyone on January 4 and 5. With this unprecedented operation, Apple is preparing the ground for season 2 of Severance, its event series expected on January 17.
Surprise, Apple TV+ becomes free! The streaming service launched by Apple in 2020, which is usually found at a price of 9.99 euros per month, will be accessible for 0 euros on Saturday January 4 and Sunday January 5, 2025. The Californian brand made this announcement on December 30 , after several days of teasing on social networks.
Free Apple TV+ for the first time: a test for Apple?
Hailed by critics for the quality of its series, Apple TV+ is not the most popular streaming service. In France, it benefits from particular emphasis thanks to a partnership with Canal+, which integrates its catalog into all its offers. However, the vast majority of French people do not have access to it, while Netflix and Prime Video have many more subscribers.
With this ephemeral free service, Apple is taking a risk to answer the following question: would its series be more popular if they were not paid for? Will hits like Ted Lasso, Shrinking or Severance suddenly disappear? Or will they remain intended for a more confidential audience than a Squid Game? The figures from this open house operation, a rare practice in the streaming industry, will undoubtedly be full of lessons.
Why choose January 4 and 5? Because Severanceits event series released in 2022, will have a season 2 on January 17. This series, which has nothing to envy of the best HBO content, has been awaited by its fans for almost three years. There is no doubt that season 1 will be heavily highlighted on TV+ on January 4 and 5, with the aim of convincing new fans to subscribe for a month or two for season 2.
How to access Apple TV+ for free? The app is available on Apple devices and almost all connected TVs (and gaming consoles). Apple TV+ is otherwise accessible on the web from a dedicated portal. We do not yet know if you will need to connect to an Apple account to watch a series, or if the catalog will be completely open.
