Rodez. The iconic “Olibet” biscuit made in Saint-Affrique

A partnership like a Christmas story… The Saint-Affricaine biscuit factory of Les Cazes and the Olibet brand are joining forces to manufacture here and distribute on a large scale a biscuit, the iconic Demi-Lune from this great French brand. “Since the 2021 agreement between Aymeric Olibet, grandson of the 6th generation and Biscuiterie des Cazes, a new adventure begins, the manufacturing here of Demi-Lune Olibet shortbread and its local and national distribution”explains Dominique Roques, director of the local biscuit factory since 2009.

The marketing agreement begins on January 1, 2025, Saint-Affricains will therefore soon find Demi-Lune in boutiques and supermarkets in the city and beyond. “La Biscuiterie des Cazes works with the company Le Temps des Cerises based in for the distribution of the Olibet biscuit in the region”, specifies its director.

Half moon

Jean Honoré Olibet founded his eponymous brand in 1840, pioneering marketing with glossy packaging illustrated with travel scenes. The first French brand, it was all the rage at the 1889 Universal Exhibition and won the gold medal. It owned four factories in and produced thirty tonnes of biscuits per day!

In competition with the LU company, it gradually fell into debt and fell into oblivion. It is reborn today thanks to Aymeric Olibet who inherited the history of the brand through molds, lithographs, original posters… And who bought the Olibet and Demi-Lune brands in 2017. This renaissance is reflected in the manufacturing of the iconic biscuit of its ancestor and its marketing in French delicatessens.

Perfumes? Extra-chocolate, Extra-lemon and Extra-vanilla. The shortbread has twenty-four grooves like the hours of the day and seven points like the seven days of the week… Its ingredients? As local and organic as possible and sold in bio-plastic packaging made from algae, biodegradable and recyclable, an innovation from the French company Eranova. A humanist approach also via the choice of Biscuiterie des Cazes to manufacture and distribute its shortbread.

Adapted company

“The Cazes biscuit factory belongs to the Belmont association ABSEAH which has six establishments including five medico-social establishments and the Biscuiterie des Cazes. This adapted company existed in 1993 and employs people with disabilities. Out of five in Aveyron, it is “one of the few to master its production from A to Z, from purchasing the ingredients to packaging it, sixteen people work here.”. The Cazes biscuit factory produces traditional spit cakes, dry savory and sweet biscuits and a little-known biscuit, the fortune cookie (it contains a small paper message and is all the rage in Asia), making it the most widely produced biscuit in the world. to this day.

The Saint-Affricaine company is the only French structure to produce it according to its original recipe. Beyond manufacturing the iconic biscuit of the Olibet brand, it continues to produce its products. The Cazes biscuit factory takes on another national dimension, even more representative of high-end French delicacy.
