The Ottawa Senators return from the holiday break to face the Winnipeg Jets for the first time this season, tonight at 7 p.m. ET. The team is on the road as they continue their nine-game road trip, having so far gone 3-1 since the trip began.
Fans will be able to watch the match on TVA Sports, City TV or Sportsnet or follow the match live on the radio on Unique FM or TSN 1200.
The Senators will enter tonight’s game looking to get back to winning ways after their 3-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on December 22. Forward Nick Cousins scored the Senators’ lone goal while goaltender Leevi Meriläinen relieved Linus Ullmark who was injured in the first period. Before this loss, the Senators were on a five-game winning streak.
Opponents of the Senators on Saturday night, the Winnipeg Jets have won their last two games. Most recently, they defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs by a score of 5-2 on Monday, December 23. This evening, the Jets will try to win a third game in a row.
The Senators played the Jets twice last season, posting a 1-0-1 record in those meetings.
Ottawa will have to play without its goalkeeper Linus Ullmark this evening since head coach Travis Green announced yesterday that the Swede was not making the trip. Ullmark will therefore remain sidelined due to the injury suffered against the Oilers before the break.
On Saturday, Leevi Merilainen and Mads Sogaard were recalled from the Belleville Senators, the Senators’ farm club in the American Hockey League. Goaltender Anton Forsberg has also been sidelined since December 14, but traveled with the team to Manitoba.
The Senators will look to continue their momentum from the final games before the holiday break while working to end the Jets’ short winning streak.
