The catchy rhythms of current music pierce the winter calm. Anyone who would let themselves be guided by their hearing would end up setting foot on Place De-Gaulle, in Pithiviers. There, the rides and the small crowds contrast radically with the little-used streets. The funfair “for adults” has been there since Friday December 20.
“Over time, it’s a little complicated,” comments Martin Frédéric, installed a little further away, a little quieter, on the West mall, behind the flying chair counter with the other rides “for the little ones”. It must be said that fog is the norm and that the sun on Thursday, December 26, which encouraged the Pithivierians to go out, was an exception.
“The funfair keeps Pithiviers alive, it’s sad otherwise”
Loyal to Pithiviers, during the Christmas holidays, but also during St. George’s Day, the showman is satisfied with the local welcome, even if, he notices, the town is less decorated than in previous years. “It makes people less likely to go out.”
Back at De-Gaulle, bathed in the music of the speakers which this time broadcast a slightly more retro hit, Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)Caroline encourages her grandson, struggling with a gripper machine, who is trying to catch a stuffed toy. She rejoices: “The funfair brings life to Pithiviers, it’s a good thing. It’s a bit sad otherwise.”
Until January 5
At the bumper cars, Kilian Bailly notes: “The attendance varies, depending on the day”. At least the Pithivierians are not disturbed by the move of the food market: the adult rides have been on Place De-Gaulle since 2022. Everyone has had time to get used to it. “We hope to make up for it on the weekends,” adds the showman. Here’s hoping that today and January 4-5, locals will be in a party mood.
Practical.
Until January 5, the funfair is present at the West Mall for the little ones, Place De-Gaulle for the older ones.
