American rapper OG Maco dies at the age of 32

American rapper, known for the hit U Guessed Itwas hospitalized in mid-December. His family has just announced his disappearance.

American rapper OG Maco, known for his song U Gessed It released ten years ago, died at the age of 32. His family announced it on Friday, December 27 on their Instagram account, a few weeks after his admission to a hospital in Los Angeles.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved Ben, whom the world knew as OG Maco,” they wrote in the press release.

“Her life was a testimony of resilience, creativity, and boundless love,” they continue. “Through his music, his passion and his determined spirit, he touched many lives and left a mark that endures.”

Gunshot wound

As Variety recalls, OG Maco was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital on December 12. Multiple media outlets, including TMZ, reported that he suffered from a gunshot wound to the head. Others, notably the New York Post, indicate that he shot himself.

“(OG Maco) is in critical but stable condition,” his family said in a statement on December 16. “He is receiving the best care possible, and we remain hopeful as he continues to fight.”

Born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr. on April 23, 1992 in Georgia, OG Maco achieved massive success with his single U Gessed Ita viral phenomenon of 2014. A duet remix with rapper 2 Chainz even ranked 90th in the Top Best Sellers in the United States. The artist has since released numerous EPs and two albums, The God Of Rage in 2021 and AND MACO in 2023.

He has experienced several health problems in recent years. The rapper fractured his skull and cracked a vertebra in a serious car accident in 2016.

In 2019, he announced that he was fighting necrotizing fasciitis, a skin disease that affected the tissues of his face. “I was poorly treated for an itch and ended up with a flesh-eating disease,” he wrote on social media. “I go through this alone, 90% of the time.” He spoke about the consequences of this illness on his mentality, as reported by Complex: “There were several days when I wanted to die.”
