With two draws per week respectively, the Loto and EuroMillions often attract “lucky” people. But in this article, this formula is not really relevant. We're going to tell you about the “lucky ones”, those who won the biggest jackpots of the year.
actu.fr contacted Française des jeux (FDJ) to find out the five biggest gains of 2024 for each of its two lotteries. As the end of the year approaches, we bring you back to these moments when French people saw their lives completely turned upside down.
From 26 to 166 million euros at EuroMillions
Here are the five biggest gains of the year recorded in France in 2024 (FDJ list communicated to actu.fr) :
- 166 million euros on April 30 for an Internet player (166,790,050 euros to be exact)
- Nearly 88 million euros on January 16 for an Internet player (87,952,585 euros)
- 73 million euros on February 20 for a Frenchman from Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur (73,448,160 euros)
- 48 million euros on May 14 for a Frenchman from Nouvelle-Aquitaine (48,748,900 euros)
- 26 million euros for a French person in Occitanie (26,181,999 euros)
This year, France particularly shone at EuroMillions. In April, we were already telling you about the one that was going to become the most beautiful grid of the year, the one at 166 million.
The numbers which allowed France to win the largest sum in EuroMillions: 13, 22, 24, 33, 47 and the lucky numbers 5 and 1. Boxes to blacken in 2025 to bring you luck?
If it is stupendous, it is nevertheless not not the highest jackpot of the year for the European lottery. In June, a Portuguese man won 213 million euros. Just that.
Work, cars… simple things in the end
If France has been rather well off, it is not here that the biggest crazy things have been done. Several new multimillionaires of 2024 have stood out by demonstratingunfailing composure.
The second biggest jackpot of the year, that of almost 88 million euros, was obviously the subject of an article on our site. We told you that this occasional player was going to change professional activity, invest in real estate, buy old cars or even do work on his home.
The next ones on our list of big winners for 2024 also planned to travel, do work and buy a new car. Bordeaux news had told the story of this couple from Girondins who thought it was “a joke” when they saw the amount of their jackpot: more than 48 million euros.
“We slept with it”
For the last on our list, it was on vacation in the Hautes-Pyrénées that a couple, a player for 20 years, discovered to their amazement that their numbers were correct. A story of luck that we told you last July.
We slept with it, but we also took it to the beach with us and we had to take turns bathing. At our rental place, we even hid it under a pile of plates and in an old piece of furniture.
From 14 to 22 million euros in the Loto
On the Loto side, if the amounts are much less importantthey are not negligible however.
Here are the five biggest gains of the year, notified in a press release from the FDJ:
- 22 million euros on July 24 for a resident of Montrouge (Hauts-de-Seine)
- 20 million euros on January 15 for a resident of Doudeville (Seine-Maritime)
- 18 million euros on June 12 for a resident of Sainte-Hélène (Morbihan)
- 15 million euros on March 27 for an Internet player
- 14 million on September 14 for a resident of Chaumont (Haute-Marne)
Our local editorial staff Paris news reported the biggest Lotto win of the year.
” I will stop working and devote myself to traveling. We are going to organize a long stay in Polynesia,” he declared during his reception at the Française des jeux to immortalize his winnings of 22 million euros.
Last July, it was the second largest gain won in Hauts-de-Seine by a Française des jeux player. It is now (especially) the biggest jackpot of the year for the national lottery.
Our little overview of the big French winners is over. What if this was you in 2025? As they say, 100% of winners have already tried their luck.
