For 20 years, Nicolas Doussin was at the head of the company Alerte IT, which he founded.
At 55, he decided to turn to his other passion: musical instruments.
Thus, the one who is based in Basse-Goulaine, near Nantes, created his own violin making workshop.
Violin making was in his genes
Nicolas Doussin has been a musician since the age of 11.
An age when his parents gave him his first guitar.
Which he still has.
He took care of it and made repairs himself when needed.
The violin making was in his genes, he now makes it his professionafter having had an entire career in IT, even creating his own company 20 years ago.
A musical instrument is a living thing. It is the extension of the artist's hand. When you need to repair your instrument that you hold dear, you entrust it to someone you trust. We have a great responsibility.
This relationship is the heart of his profession.
“A card to play with repair”
A creation against the grain since music stores are disappearing one after the other.
There are only two left in the Nantes area.
“But they only do sales. I have a card to play with the repair”, relates the one who will only take care of plucked string instruments such as acoustic guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, lute, but also electric guitars.
“My former job allows me to understand the problems of electronic adjustments on this type of instrument,” explains the man who begins this reconversion at 55 years old.
Trained at the Ecole supérieure du bois de Nantes
Trained at the École supérieure du bois de Nantes, he completed a seven-week internship with a master luthierOlivier Roux, in Saint-Nazaire.
“I can, therefore, adjust, repair and optimize instruments by appointment,” says the man who is part of a network of musical groups. Word of mouth brought him the first orders.
This passion has become my main activity where I find pleasure and above all a new quality of life.
It's never too late to fulfill your dreams.
