More and more entrepreneurs want to be part of an ecological transition process.
The Eco-Défis brand, supported since 2017 by the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Loire-Atlantique, is there for that.
The principle is simple.
With the circular economy advisor of the departmental structure, they take stock of their waste, their mobility, the products they use, their packagingtheir water and energy consumption and their societal and sustainable functioning.
Three challenges on two themes
They then just need to choose two themes and set three challenges on these subjects.
All they have to do is reach them to obtain the mark.
And of course persevere to renew it, continuing, every two years at least, to innovate by increasingly reducing their negative impact on our planet.
Carine Moro is the advisor who supports businesses in Loire-Atlantique.
The dynamic is good in the department, and therefore also in the Nantes vineyard.
“There are already around ten of them who have challenged themselves, led by the Auberge de la Gaillotière, in Château-Thébaud, which this year received the gold bonus. In addition to managing their waste, they produce vegetables and aromatic herbs on site in permaculture.”
Around ten virtuous companies
On the restaurant side, she also highlights the efforts of the Maisdon la Table restaurant, in Maisdon-sur-Sèvre.
In addition to short circuits, the restaurant has worked on accessibility for people with disabilitiesa point that concerns society.
A collaboration between the two “marques” of Haute-Goulaine, the bulk grocery store “2 pas 2measures” and the greengrocer-butchery-fishmonger “Au Plaisir de Saveurs” appealed to her.
The second makes his customers aware of the containers, which he deposits, to then give them to the first who uses them for his bulk. A collaborative initiative which therefore responds to several items, packaging, waste and also societal issues.
Carine Moro also cites examples for energy.
“At Loroux-Bottereau, the Amb'ely hair salon has notably made savings by tackling its energy consumption.”
Goodbye to permanently plugged-in hair dryers, hello to the new washing and drying machines, larger and less electricity-consuming.
We find somewhat similar approaches in Saint-Julien-de-Concelles at the Saveurs d’Antan bakery.
“Their display cases and laboratory equipment were old and energy-intensive, they renewed them. Another chosen focus is waste. The bakery, which consumes around 1,500 eggs per week, is served at the neighboring Ferme de La Divatte. These eggs are delivered to him in reusable cells.”
For water, “Papas Brasseurs”, a brewery based in Clisson, had, even before applying for the Eco-Défis brandalready thought about reducing their water bill. “They operate in a closed circuit,” explains the advisor. They were therefore able to focus on other points: the deposit for bottles, reusable storage or even the management of their dangerous products.”
Daily Bike, an unexpected example
Still in Clisson, the young company Daily Bike has done it again and is marked for the second time.
This company has designed linen clothing that does not retain odors and dries very quickly.
It's ideal for commuters. They no longer need to change when they arrive at work because they have sweated too much.
Getting started on obtaining the Eco-Défis brand seemed obvious to him:
“It fits perfectly with our philosophy,” says the manager. During the 'entrepreneur journey' at the CMA, Carine Moro presented the Eco-Défis brand to us. It was obvious for us to take part in this process.”
For this brand renewal, she focused on certain points that she had worked on, but also on new ones.
“We already had bio-sourced packaging, but we have gone further. From now on, our stand for fairs and exhibitions is made of wood, cut by my husband in the corner, and linen. It can hardly be more local. And we changed vehicles to consume and emit less. But we can do even better.”
There is therefore no shortage of ideas for all companies that wish to take on this Eco-Challenge... and for all “consumers” who want to support their approach.
