Each year, the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards highlight the funniest wildlife photos. For the 2024 edition, it was an image captured by Milko Marchetti that won over the jury. Titled « Stuck Squirrel »this photo shows a squirrel in an improbable posture, paws in the air, trying to enter its hiding place nestled in a tree trunk, reports CNN.
“Over the years, I have photographed countless squirrels in all kinds of situations, but this one made me smile immediately,” says the Italian photographer. “The scene is captured at the precise moment when the squirrel detaches its hind legs from the trunk to enter its shelter. »
A competition that breaks records
The competition saw record participation this year, with more than 9,000 photos submitted by photographers from around the world. After an initial selection of 45 images, a jury designated the winners in different categories, including the funniest photo.

Surprising finalists
Among the other finalist shots, we find equally unusual scenes: a praying mantis in a pose evoking a flamenco dance, a frog whose head is caught in an air bubble or even a flying fish chasing a bird of prey.
The year before, the title was won by Jason Moore with a kangaroo appearing to play a guitar. These images, as funny as they are unexpected, remind us of the importance of humor and lightness in wildlife photography.
