UA new association has just been created in Matha. The one who managed the Matha cinema, created more than thirty years ago, had lost its momentum. Recently, a handful of enthusiasts decided to tackle a mission: attract more shows to the pretty Forum cinema hall.

Clément Mazaud is the new president of the new Matha-Cinéma association. This young man is passionate about the seventh art. “I want to offer an experience in our room, watching a film on a big screen in your home, that has nothing to do with it,” believes this employee of a public authority. Marie Gautier serves as treasurer within the new association. “There are a dozen of us motivated people who want to increase attendance at our room,” explains this dynamic retiree. “In 2023, we offered more than 250 screenings (including 140 from the “arthouse” label and films in original version), we sold 3,732 tickets, that’s good but we can do much better. »

Looking for volunteers

The Matha Forum is a 154-seat cinema and shows from Thursday evening to Monday evening. “We want to go further, to offer activities, film debates… We have already obtained the agreement of a local scholar who is ready to come and discuss with the public after screenings of historical films” , underlines Clément Mazaud. There is no shortage of projects. “We plan to be present on social networks, wish to develop sessions for schools and we will join Ciné Passion 17 [qui réunit les salles de cinéma indépendantes de Charente-Maritime, NDLR] », develops Marie Gautier.

Working with the distributor Véo-Cinéma, the new team at the Mathalien cinema is committed to offering attractive prices (6.50 euros per screening) and is looking for volunteers.
