The cause of the event, which occurred Friday evening at the Mr Chow restaurant, has not been clearly established.
“A glass was thrown by someone from another table and hit him in the mouth,” a spokesperson for the actor reported in a statement sent to the newspaper. “He had to receive stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in the hands of law enforcement.”
The Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) says it responded around 10 p.m. Friday to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and determined the incident was unfounded.
“Rather, it was a physical altercation between the parties,” a department statement said. “BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and completed a report documenting the assault and battery. No arrests have been made.”
A phone message asking for details was left at Mr Chow restaurant on Sunday.
In an Instagram post Sunday morning, Jamie Foxx thanked those who had checked in on him.
Apparently referring to the altercation at Mr Chow restaurant, he wrote: “The devil is busy… but I’m too blessed to be stressed.”
