A true tradition in the Antilles-Guyana, Chanté Nwèl is a moment of sharing in a warm and friendly atmosphere. From the first weekend of Advent, in Martinique, Guadeloupe and Guyana, we gather with family or friends to sing Christmas carols while sharing traditional dishes. Instruments like the bèlè drum and the ti-bwa mix with the synth, drums or guitar to accompany the choruses. The songs, often passed down from generation to generation, are steeped in history and spirituality.
The branches of the Overseas division of France Télévisions are mobilizing to offer their audiences the opportunity to experience this unique moment on Martinique La 1eraGuadeloupe La 1era and Guyana La 1era.
Guadeloupe La 1era
In order to perpetuate the tradition and establish a beautiful festive spirit, we take out the hymns and sing Christmas with the group Tropik Live of Christian Narafrom the resort gardens.
Tropik Live was born from the passion of an artist. Originally from Capesterre-Belle-Eau, it was in 2016 that Christian Nara brought together musicians and singers to set up a musical structure dedicated to Christmas carols. A crazy bet but, three weeks later, the group is back on track and begins its first performances. The release of the first single, “Nwèl Tropikal”, did not take long and the famous “Mwen pa kay domi” established itself as a flagship title, a reference in the repertoire even today.
For eight years, Christian Nara and his group have traveled throughout the Guadeloupean archipelago and offer a repertoire of hymns and Nwèl songs to the delight of the public.
Martinique La 1era
Next December 24, Martinique La 1era concocted an authentic Christmas with the group Merry Christmas and its charismatic singer, Robert Mavounzawhich is celebrating its 40th career this year.
On the program, an exceptional live performance on a historic site, witness to the life and values of yesteryear, the Village de la Poterie, in Trois-Îlets, where hymns and refrains will resonate to the greatest joy of viewers.
Guyana La 1era
December 20, Guyana La 1era offers the concert – captured last November at Le Diamant – of the three leading Nwèl singing groups in Guyana: Raché Pliché, Branché Débranché and Chiré Ban’n.
