Hollywood actress Sarah Jessica Parker, one of the main characters of the series Sex And The Citywas chosen to be part of the jurors for the 2025 edition of the prestigious Booker Prize literary prize, the organizers announced on Tuesday. This jury will be chaired by the Irish writer Roddy Doyle, 66 years old, himself winner of this sesame in 1993 with the novel Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. In addition to the interpreter of Carrie Bradshaw, he will be accompanied by the Nigerian novelist Ayobami Adebayo, the British writer Chris Power and the American author Kiley Reid.

Sarah Jessica Parker, 59-year-old actress and winner of four Golden Globes, has quietly made a place for herself in the book industry in recent years. First as editorial director of a subsidiary of the Penguin publishing house, then by launching in 2023 her own brand, SJP Lit, in partnership with an independent publisher. “Joining the Booker jury seemed very intimidating,” she told the New York Times. “I view jurors as academics, educated and experienced, which is not my case. I didn’t have higher education. I don’t have any qualifications,” she continued.

Authors and their publishing houses can already submit their works for the 2025 edition. The list of 12 or 13 selected titles will be announced in July, that of the finalists in September and the name of the winner will be revealed in November 2025.

Launched in 1969, the Booker Prize rewards each year the author of the “best novel written in English”. Compared to the French Goncourt, it has contributed to the success of writers like Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood and even the winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize for Literature Han Kang, who won it in 2016 with The Vegetarian. It was awarded this year to British author Samantha Harvey for her fifth novel Orbital, after a competition dominated by women.
