In Quimper, Mikaël Micheau-Vernez unveils a new work on the work of his father Robert

This Friday, December 13, the Philippe Théallet Gallery welcomed Mikaël Micheau-Vernez on the occasion of the publication of a new book dedicated to the work of his father entitled “Les Marines de Micheau-Vernez”, by Groix Édition. This was the opportunity for the son of Robert Micheau Vernez (1907-1989), to dedicate this fifth book, written by Jean-Marc Michaud, honorary curator of the Morbihan Museums, and prefaced by Michel Philippe, regional curator for culture and maritime heritage, which evokes “a master with an original palette and outlook on the sea, ports and boats”.

An exceptional colorist

This richly illustrated work comprising nearly 300 visuals is entirely dedicated to the theme of the navy, highlighting the works of this multidisciplinary artist: paintings, drawings, earthenware, stained glass or illustrations and posters. For his son, “his painting strongly bears witness to a bygone era, that of the wooden fishing boat because the marine theme represents for this native of a quarter of his artistic production”.

This new work will take the reader to the rocks, beaches and Breton ports from Loctudy to Pointe Saint-Mathieu but also to more distant lands such as Provence or Venice. residents can discover or rediscover two frescoes by the artist in earthenware tiles, one in the station’s Salle des Pas Perdus (1953), the second representing the map of in the hall of the Town Hall .

The next exhibition dedicated to the artist is already scheduled in next August as part of the Interceltique Festival. It will be held at the Faouëdic gallery
