In December 2022, Amazon negotiated the rights to adapt the famous strategic figurine game Warhammer 40,000with the intention of making it a cinematic universe that would potentially include a series produced and carried by Henry Cavill (The Witcher, Man of Steel). Without news of the project for a long time, we have just learned via our colleagues at Deadline that it is officially in development for Prime Video.

A project in the making for two years

According to the webzine, a team of creatives was assembled to determine the direction the universe will take. Warhammer of Amazon and the ideas provided by these writers pushed the studio to give the green light to a series which would therefore be the entry point into this vast universe that fans of the Games Workshop game, like Henry Cavill, know well.

“Together we sifted through the plethora of incredible characters and pored over ancient tomes and texts,” the actor continued. “Our combined efforts led us to a fantastic place to start our universe, and one that was approved by the minds at Amazon and Games Workshop.”

As pointed out Deadlinethis announcement concerning the series Warhammer 40,000 comes at the right time because Games Workshop and Amazon had given themselves until December 2024 to agree on the “creative guidelines for films and television series to be developed by Amazon” so that the latter retain the adaptation rights.

Games Workshop produces the game Warhammer 40,000 since 1987. Its universe is set in a dystopian future where players face a scenario in which humanity is perpetually at war with heretics, mutants and aliens. This universe has already recently made its first appearance on Prime Video in the animated series Secret Level.
