Baie-Comoise Josée Girard proclaimed Artist of the Year for the North Shore

The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, in collaboration with Culture Côte-Nord, awarded the Prix duCALQ – Artist of the year on the Côte-Nord to multidisciplinary artist from Baie-Comeau Josée Girard. The award comes with a $10,000 scholarship.

The members of the jury assembled by the CALQ describe Josée Girard as an involved woman who has contributed to democratizing art on the North Shore for several years. “Versatile and multitalented, she reinvents and renews herself for the happiness of her diverse audiences. Very engaged in her community, she is not afraid to build bridges, create links and meet her audiences in every corner of the North Shore,” they add.

Author, actress, director and artistic director, Josée Girard trained in various Quebec universities in literature, theater and teaching. His artistic approach, deeply rooted in creative theater, draws its inspiration from the great outdoors and north-coastal nature.

She has directed numerous productions, including “The Carnival of the Animals” for young audiences, presented during a tour in the Lower North Shore. Over the last four years, she has expressed her talent as an interpreter in several productions, such as Fleuve, Marco fait naurage and I give my tongue to the cat.
