“Instinct” sold more than 80,000 copies in four days. While not a record, this launch is among the best in this publishing segment.
After conquering cinemas with his documentary Kaizen on his ascent of Everest, star YouTuber Inoxtag has his fans flocking to bookstores. The content creator announced at the beginning of November the release of his first manga, named Instinct. Marketed on November 21, the latter sold more than 80,000 copies in four days, according to its publisher Michel Lafon, cited in The Echoes . The total circulation of this volume of more than 200 pages is 400,000 copies.
According to our information, Instinct sold 67,500 copies in the circuit controlled by the GFK reference institute, i.e. bookstores, supermarkets, large cultural stores, e-commerce… Additional sales come from “collector” copies sold directly by the content creator via a dedicated site, which found itself taken by storm in a few hours. This start allows Instinct to take the lead in last week's best sales, ahead of the Goncourt prize Houris, by Kamel Daoud.

A Sunday event on the Champs-Élysées
These 80,000 sales do not constitute a record for manga in France. The latter remains firmly held by the Japanese series One Piecewhose 100th volume was sold in 2021 at 131,270 copies in three days according to GFK. But this is an excellent performance for a manga, and even more so for a French creation. Instinct was designed and co-scripted by Charles Compain, who is writing his first work after a career as a business engineer. The work also benefited from an anime trailer produced by the company Toro Animation Studio, whose French founders work on successful Japanese animated series such as Naruto or One Piece.
Inoxtag fans will have other opportunities to support their favorite content creator. On Sunday, the latter will host a promotional event for Netflix and its series in Paris on the Champs-Élysées, alongside YouTubers Maghla and Just Riadh. Squid Game. The places to participate in this giant “1,2,3 sun” were sold out in less than 24 hours.
