From 12 ansMathieu Przybylski and his family decorate their house for the holidays. And every year, these inhabitants of the commune of Lantefontaine (Meurthe-et-) receive for free of the thousands of people just for that.

But this year, new features have been introduced including the possibility, for 5 eurosto make oneself take a photo with the Grinch then leave with your printed photo.

This went down badly with certain visitors who did not hesitate to let it be known.

A surprising inauguration

During the inauguration of the house decorated on the theme of the Grinch, Saturday November 23, everything did not go as planned.

The great novelty, which requires payment, was poorly received by some while the money collected was to be donated to the League against cancer. Disease against which Mathieu fought in 2016.

Negative comments, insults and several damage – broken tiles and found waste – got the better of Mathieu and his family. “We have always done this for free, we don’t do this for money,” regrets the person concerned.

An early closure

Shows, illuminations, walks outside or even photos with Santa Claus, everything was freedespite the amounts invested by the family. This year, 4,000 euros were added for the Grinch costume and life-size Santa's sleigh.

But nothing could ease the tensions on Saturday, when hundreds of people gathered. The damage therefore caused a closure this week.

A wave of support

“We wanted to stop everything,” laments Mathieu. But the support received via Social networks have allowed people in Lorraine to believe in the magic of Christmas. “We find ourselves in the place of cabbages like in the film Le Grinchhe laughs. They tried to take away this magic of Christmas from us but we are stronger than that. »

“Despite this, we were able to give 220 euros to the association», welcomes Mathieu. Some people even came there on Sunday to support them.

Return to (almost) normal

So they decided that the “cabbages” would win. The illuminated house will be accessible again from Saturday November 30 at 5:45 p.m. for a second inauguration.

As a result, some changes have been made. Santa Claus and the Grinchwill be gathered and the photos will no longer be taken on board but in front of the sleigh and free of charge.

Printing will always be possible for a few cents or euros, depending on each visitor's desire to give. “We will leave a small box for people to donate if they wish. »

Hours: Monday to Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
