The film “Marja Zarqa” (Blue Lagoon) tells the story of Youssef (12 years old), orphaned and blind, who lives with his grandfather in a remote village in the desert. One day, his grandfather gives him a camera and Youssef begins to film everything around him until the arrival of this journey to the blue lagoon in the desert!

In addition to Mohamed Khouyi, the film, lasting 85 minutes, features a host of Moroccan actors, including Hasna Tamtaoui, Youssef Kadir, Azelarab Kaghat and Abdelhak Saleh.

Moroccan cinema marked this edition of the festival with a strong presence in several sections and programs, with the participation of the film “Radia” by director Khaoula Assebab Benomar in the competition of the “International Critics’ Week”, which counts Moroccan actress Nisrine Radi among her jury. The Moroccan film “Ana Machi Ana” by director Hicham El Jabbari was, for its part, screened in the special screenings program.

On the sidelines of the festival, the 10th edition of the Cairo film forum took place with the participation of the Moroccan film “Al-Matroud Min Rahmat Allah”, by director Hicham Al-Assri. The big winner of this 45th edition was the feature film “This New Year That Never Came”, by Romanian director Bogdan Mureşanu, which won the Golden Pyramid for best film.
