Disney has released the first trailer for the live remake of the cult cartoon from the 2000s, which tells the story of the friendship between a young Hawaiian girl and an alien.
Announced in 2018, the remake project of Lilo & Stitch revealed its first images on Monday. A short teaser released by Disney on YouTube features the alien Stitch destroying sandcastles on a beach.
Released in 2002, Lilo & Stitch tells the story of the friendship between a young Hawaiian girl, Lilo, and an intelligent extraterrestrial, Stitch, the product of a genetic experiment on the planet Turo. When he arrives on earth, he is taken in by the young girl and her sister.
The live-action remake is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel, the Shell (with his shoes)nominated for an Oscar) and produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, already behind the remake d’Aladdin by Guy Ritchie.
Chris Sanders, who co-directed the film in 2002 and lent his voice to the monster, returns to play Stitch. Zach Galifianakis, the star of Very Bad Triplends his features to Jumba, the creator of Stitch.
Limited success
And Lilo & Stitch was not a great success at the box office upon its release, it has since become cult, giving rise to several sequels, spin-offs and games. His co-directors, Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, later directed together Dragons.
Since the success ofAlice in Wonderland by Tim Burton in 2010, Disney has undertaken to revisit its classics in live action, Cinderella au Jungle Book passing through Aladdin.
A sequel to the CG remake of Lion King, Mufusawill be released in cinemas in December. And a new version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler is scheduled for March 19 in theaters.
