What would you do if you won EuroMillions? Become the owner of your house? Take a nice family trip? Change car? In fact, if the jackpot for this Tuesday, November 26, 2024 falls, the winner will not even have to make a choice.
Indeed, the European lottery involves the tidy sum of 208 million euros. An astronomical amount, but not the maximum possible.
Up to 250 million euros in winnings
On its website, Française des jeux (FDJ) is very clear. “In the continued absence of a rank 1 winner, the jackpot increases with each drawing depending on the stakes made, up to a ‘first rank ceiling’ which is defined today at 250 million euros. »
Since 2020, the ceiling has already been increased five times. The last time was in December 2023 when the historic jackpot of 240 million euros was won by a very lucky player. A rank 1 winner (a person who found the five correct numbers as well as the two stars).
It is only this exact combination that allows you to win the jackpot. Except in one case.
Five draws with the maximum amount
Let’s say that the EuroMillions jackpot reaches its maximum, 250 million euros. The statistics don’t change: you still have one chance in 139 million to win. It is therefore quite possible that there will be no winner.
In this case, the same sum, here 250 million euros, is throw-in four times to find a buyer, after being offered to players the first time.
In the absence of a jackpot winner, the same amount is put back into play up to four successive times before being automatically redistributed to the second-ranked winner(s) (during the 5th successive ceiling jackpot draw) .
It is therefore possible to win the jackpot without having all the correct numbers, if you are the only winner of rank 2. But there, it’s starting to be a lot of ifs.
A maximum jackpot that can still increase
If we reach 250 million euros, the rule is that the ceiling increases. In 2023, it had increased from 240 to 250 million euros. If the current jackpot continues to fail, will we be entitled to an increase in the maximum amount? Response in the coming weeks.
As a reminder, during the first EuroMillions draw, the jackpot is 17 million euros. This Tuesday, November 26, will be the 15ejackpot draw put into play on Tuesday, October 8.
