It was almost 27 years ago… On August 31, 1997, at only 36 years old, Lady Diana lost her life in a terrible road accident in Paris. Monday July 1, 2024, it was when she would have been 63 that Sarah Ferguson, to whom she was very close, had a moving thought for her. On Instagram, she shared a photo where the two young women are on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on the occasion of Trooping the Color.
“Happy birthday to my dear friend Diana. You were a pillar of light and love. And what legacy you leave behind. I will always remember our laughter and the kind spirit I found in you. I’m sure you’re still watching over us. Rest in peace my friend”she wrote with emotion.

In July 2021, it was in the columns of People that Sarah Ferguson spoke at length about her friendship with the mother of Princes William and Harry. “We were best friends when she was 14 and I was 15”she recalled before confiding: “She taught me so much about public life. She was so brave. We used to have such amazing times together.”.

A few years earlier, it was on the set of Good Morning Britain that the Duchess of York confided: “I miss her so much. No one made me laugh as much as she did. She had this enormous capacity to feel empathy. and I think she would have been so proud of her sons but also of Meghan and Kate (…) She would have been very proud. She kept telling me how happy she was that her boys were growing up so well. They are the fruit of her education”.
