Recording studio and production label, “Tamperproof” inaugurated its premises just a year ago on the heights of Marssac-sur-Tarn. A look back at a musical adventure that finds its roots between Tarn, Paris and London.

Alex Mauillon started music very early. Solo or in a group, he explores a musical identity navigating between rock and English pop. The young Gaillacois traveled a lot to meet new inspirations. After attending a music writing school in Brighton, it was at home, in Tarn, that he set up a recording space with the ambition of being autonomous in his creations.

“I wanted to be independent. I learned on the job by recording with producers and by experimenting on my own. I got a taste for this freedom of being able to produce my own music,” he recalls. Very quickly the idea emerged of opening this space to other artists for the duration of a recording, a residency, a rehearsal.

Located in the town of Castelnau-de-Levis, the Tamperproof studio overlooks the river and the Marssac bridge. A breathtaking view and green surroundings that give the place a special atmosphere, a little “out of this world”. Inside, the studio provides cutting-edge recording equipment and the essentials of organic music (acoustic or electric guitars, piano, drums, microphones, etc.). The sleeping area invites artists to stay for several days, confined in their creative process.

A label that shines beyond the department

The contacts gleaned by the young producer during his English and Parisian experiences have brought artists from the four corners of France and England to come and record a sound or imagine a new album in Tarn. “It’s super stimulating to bring the place to life by inviting other ideas to take part. It inspires a great creative force,” rejoices Alex Mauillon. The musical colors are varied and the universes very eclectic.

At the dawn of its second year of existence, “Tamperproof” has just produced the first EP from Sir Romy, a very young artist from Marseille whose unique voice bodes well for a great career in music. Their bonds were formed across the Channel, on the benches of the Brighton music school. Today followed by the Bolegason in the Tarn, Sir Romy was able to grace some beautiful stages with this first opus – notably La Boule Noire in Paris. Entitled “Mindscapes”, this EP navigates between pop, soul, rock and trip-hop inspirations. A plural music that she shapes according to her intuitions.
