This year, for the Christmas holidays, children are invited to discover the Basilica of Saint-Denis during the Tales and Stories event, from December 26, 2024 to January 4, 2025.
THE national monuments open their doors to families during the national event Tales and Stories 2024. During the Christmas vacationchildren are in the spotlight in the various participating monuments in France, through various entertainment for the whole family. A great fun and cultural event in these historical places, which makes us discover the jewels of our heritage.
The Saint-Denis Basilica is participating in this event again this year, and unveils a beautiful programme which allows us to rediscover the necropolis of kings in a new light! Of December 26 to January 4, 2025we go there to discover unusual animations which have something to fascinate young and old alike.
You don’t know the Saint-Denis Basilica ? This Gothic-style religious building has a long and fascinating history, dating back to Gallo-Roman times. This site has been a burial site for many, many centuries, and has been the scene of many stories over time. Today, the basilica is best known for housing the recumbent figures of the queens and kings of France.
For this new edition, the Basilica invites us to enter into the spirit of Noël, thanks to manual workshops unpublished:

THE SECRET OF SAPPHIRE
In the year of our Lord 1122, a young monk got lost one winter evening on the way to Abruzzo. This monk is called Suger. He is far from suspecting that he is going to have an encounter that will change his destiny… A pact that is too frivolous, the ancient challenge of a mother, a color never seen in this world: these are the ingredients of a story long banned which will reveal to you the true origin of the sapphire blue that we still admire in the stained glass windows of the Saint-Denis basilica. Or how the blue of the sky can hide an infernal secret…

VISIT-WORKSHOP: TALES AND LEGENDS OF THE KINGS AND QUEENS OF THE BASILICA
Families will discover the ancient abbey of Saint-Denis, its recumbent figures of queens and kings of France, its history through stories, tales and legends. In the workshop, the children will create snow globe-style pendant lights.
Visit departure for 4-7 year olds and 8-10 year olds - January 4 at 3:30 p.m.
VISIT-WORKSHOP: SHOOTING KINGS AND QUEENS AT THE BASILICA
Families will discover the ancient abbey of Saint-Denis and its royal necropolis. In the workshop, the children will decorate a scratch crown and taste the galette des rois.
