The posters were already scattered around the city, the Facebook page was already active, as was the website and online reservations. Communication to the press was to be officially launched this week. But now, the Liège Christmas circus, scheduled from December 21 to January 5, will ultimately not take place. Martin Dorchain, from the organizing company Show Product, announced to the City on Monday that he would not organize the event. We contacted him, and he did not wish to tell us the reasons for this change of heart.
In reality, it was following the cancellation for the fifth consecutive year of Stefan Agnessen and his European Cicus Festival that Martin Dorchain proposed organizing a circus show in Liège for the end-of-year celebrations. Green light from the city for a location on the Saint-Léonard esplanade. But, according to our information, the circus community did not appreciate that this applicant so cavalierly took over the circus festival, which had solidified its roots during around thirty winters in Liège. It must also be said that Mr. Dorchain had been his collaborator for two years.
After receiving a few phone calls and warnings, he threw in the towel.
“We’re not upset, because it wasn’t easy to put together a show at the last minute after Stefan Agnessen’s cancellation in October anyway. So he could possibly offer a show again next year“, we underline at the aldermanship of Maggy Yerna.
But the fact remains that, for its part, the European Circus Festival announces that it has entered into a partnership with Nicolas Bouglione… for a big return in December 2025, on Boulevard d’Avroy.
