The head of the Culture Department at the City of Montreal, Éricka Alneus, admits that the overall operating budget has not increased. It will be 73 million for the year 2025. But with the addition of 7 million from the Economic Development Department, it hopes to continue its mission with cultural organizations and festivals, among others.

Besides, Mme Alneus confirms to us that one of the measures in the City’s budget provides for an exemption from municipal taxes for 70 cultural NPOs. Aid of 2.2 million.

A new cultural participation program in neighborhoods of 2.5 million is also on the program, as are the measures announced a few weeks ago on the soundproofing of rooms with fewer than 3,000 seats, an expense of 2.5 million over three years, as well as 1 million for nightlife.

Finally, the City of Montreal recently announced recurring aid of 1 million for festivals. This sum will increase the Festivals and Major Events Fund to 6.5 million in 2025. In total, if we count all the aid programs, the City’s total financial assistance for festivals will be 9 million next year.
