European twinning committees allow links and exchanges between countries. That of Utrillas-Decazeville appears active.
The Utrillas-Decazeville European twinning committee brings together some 70 members on the French side. Two thirds participated in the recent general assembly. Exchanges continue regularly between the two sister cities because, over the years, friendships have been formed on both sides of the Pyrenees.
The 2023-24 season will not have seen any major events compared to previous years. However, the members of the twinning committee discovered the Canary Islands. The trip participants returned enchanted by the beauty of the sites.
The 2023 Christmas market has not escaped the success of other years. Next December it will be renewed. “We hope to see many of you on December 15 and 16, 2024 on our stand,” the volunteer leaders told the audience.
Activities in 2025
Then, the office looked at the months to come. Given the success of the performance of the folk group “Jotas”, and at the request of many members and spectators, it is planned to bring them back, during the first half of 2025. It is also planned to present a flamenco show, during the year. For several years now, the Spanish twinning committee has been offering very interesting cultural trips. “Why not consider visiting the island of Lanzarote later?” suggested one of the association’s members.
“It is under study and we are awaiting the allocation of a room which would allow us to consider other events,” adds president Hélène Solis. The latter thanks the help from the Decazeville town hall and the region, “thus facilitating our participation in the city’s entertainment”. The resigning office, as tradition dictates, was renewed unanimously, namely, president: Hélène Solis; secretary: Josiane Grialou; treasurer: Patricia Burdak; assistant treasurer: Luis Sanchez. The meeting ended in a friendly atmosphere with some delicacies including a ham offered by the municipality of Utrillas.
