Inheritance from Dassault, Ricard or Rothschild: against good fortune, bad heart
Raphaëlle Bacqué and Vanessa Schneider publish “Successions — Family Secrets”, published by Albin Michel. After the great success of their first volume, “Successions: Money, Blood and Tears”, their new book is devoted to the transmission of power within the great French fortunes. In their second volume, we find the Dassault, Rothschild, Leclerc and Ricard families. Families in which the children — often the sons — are groomed to take over and run the family empire, but attempt to emancipate themselves from their predecessor. Because passing the torch to your heir when you have created an empire is not an easy task, but having to assume such a legacy is not either. “We find the rivalries and misunderstandings that exist in all families,” writes Raphaëlle Bacqué… except for one detail: here, inheritances are counted in the billions.
1,000 days of Russia-Ukraine war: final salvos before negotiations?
The war between Ukraine and Russia will enter its thousandth day on Wednesday, November 20. Almost three years after the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022 – which marked the return of the war to European soil – the end of the conflict appears to be a possible horizon. The election of Donald Trump has reignited debates on negotiations, with the new American president having declared that he could resolve the conflict in “24 hours”. But while waiting for him to take office on January 20, the war rages on the military level. On Sunday, November 17, Russia launched a large-scale air attack on Ukraine, which left eleven people dead and around twenty injured, according to a provisional report. Russia said it was targeting “critical energy infrastructure that supported Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.” On the American side, Joe Biden would have authorized Ukraine to use long-range ATACMS missiles to target military targets deep in Russian territory. So, are the two parties playing their last part before possible negotiations?
Finally, Xavier Mauduit paints the portrait of Bela Karolyi, emblematic coach of the gymnast Nadia Comaneci, who died at the age of 82, and Marie Bonnisseau discusses the growth in the number of subscribers to the Bluesky social network.
