And two. After winning the most important race of the year, the Grand Steeplechase of Paris last May, Great Goddessthe horse trained by the Englishwoman Louisa Carberry, based in Senonnes (Mayenne), won the La Haye-Jousselin prize, Sunday November 17, at the Auteuil racecourse, in Paris.
A birthday present for Louisa Carberry
With this race, the most important of the fall, the 8-year-old horse achieved the feat of winning the two most prestigious show jumping races of the year. “It’s my birthday!” I didn’t dare imagine this gift”rejoiced Louisa Carberry.
This is the second time that a horse trained by Louisa Carberry has accomplished such a feat since in 2020, the grand champion Balloon Doctor had also achieved the double.
“The horse which defends the colors of Frédéric and Oscar Hinderze, in association with its breeder Luc Monnet, dominated the big meeting of the 48 Hours of Jumping head and shoulders”indicates France galop, an association which organizes and regulates the races, in a press release.
A change of jockey but the same triumph
His usual jockey, the Craonnais Clément Lefebvre being injured, it was Thomas Beaurain who rode the animal.
“Once the two or three obstacles had been jumped, I saw that the understanding between my horse and Thomas Beaurain was working, and I said to myself that this would give them confidence. Great Goddess only reached maturity last year. Since his victory in the Grand Steeplechase, he has remained in great shape. He arrived at the top. I’m spoiled to have had two champions like Balloon Doctor et Great Goddess. Many trainers hope all their lives to have horses like them”explained Louisa Carberry.
For Thomas Beaurain, son of Jean-Yves Beaurain, former jockey who won this race, and who died in 2010, this victory had a special flavor. “It warms my heart, I have a thought for my father”he confided.
