Innu soprano Elisabeth St-Gelais has just released her first album on the ATMA Classique label.
It was in her native region that she decided to launch the album called Infini.
A recital took place Sunday afternoon at the Salle Pierrette-Gaudreault, in Jonquière, in the company of pianist Louise Pelletier. Around 160 people attended.
For this first album, Élisabeth St-Gelais focused on a particular style.
We had chosen the theme of French melodies which is an art in lyrical singing. In fact, there is German lied, there are opera arias. We really focused on French melodies with great composers of melodies such as Francis Poulenc. We also chose pieces by Cécile Chaminade, a female composer. So we are very proud of the choices we made
she emphasized in an interview with Téléjournal Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean before her performance.

She did this work in collaboration with Louise Pelletier.
Especially in the search for repertoire, obviously, because we wanted the great standards, but we also looked for things that are less done. So on that, we worked a lot together to find different things
added the pianist.
A six-year contract
This disc is the first of three at the heart of a six-year contract for the artist born to a native mother from Pessamit and a non-native father from Chicoutimi.

I am so happy for this opportunity. I can’t wait for the next one. I can’t wait to know, to think, to choose repertoire that will still highlight me when I get there because I am so much in the process of career development, even still developing my voice. So every year, every two years, there is an evolution and I am not in the same place. So, I think it’s going to be very interesting to see the evolution through these three albums
shared Elizabeth St-Gelais.
