It will be possible to freely explore the floors of the modernist building. On display in particular, an exhibition of photos by Simon Edelstein on abandoned cinemas.

Guides will also be present on all floors to explain the intricacies of the building designed by Geneva architect Marc-Joseph Saugey. Inaugurated in 1952, the Plaza was, with its 1,250 seats, the largest cinema in Geneva and one of the largest in Switzerland. It has been closed since 2004.

The Plaza and the Mont-Blanc Center building will become the Plaza Center Cinéma. At the end of 2026, this cultural complex will bring together around the iconic cinema, an immersive room, exhibition spaces, a boutique-bookstore, a bar-ice cream parlor, a brasserie and a hotel. The renovation work was marked by an impressive roof fire in summer 2023.

The room, which was initially slated for demolition, was finally saved in 2019 following a long citizen struggle. A foundation bought the building to create a cultural center. The building has been recognized as an exceptional object of built heritage.
